That's an incredibly misleading comparison to make, and people would
have to be pretty darn stupid to make buying decisions based on it (or
indeed to make such a meaningless comparison in the first place).

The only valid comparison is between two items at the same time, at
the same supplier. And on any such comparison, the 40D is in a much
higher price bracket than the Rebel XTi.

    At B&H:

    Rebel XTi, $539.95.

    40D, $1299.95.

The 40D costs 2.4 TIMES as much as the XTi.

A Mac? Don't trust its computerized character color-coordination.
It probably thinks that red is the new black, and that Macaroons
want to keep up with the latest styles. You don't by any chance
happen to have a red iPod, do you?

  5. Nah, just a white one in a black rubber case. I have a black ViewSonic
and a grey LaCie, a grey and silver printer, a white keyboard, and a two
shades of grey Wacom. ie, extremely un-color-coordinated and not chic at

IF we were shopping cameras and comparing the two at today's price... But
the original post merely asked what the replacement for the XTi would be.

Both the XT and XTi were introduced at $999. The CanonUSA site lists the 40D
as "NEW" with a suggested retail price of $1299. (Granted, that's body

Now, if the original poster was in the market for an XTi, then great deals
are to be had. But if he's looking for the XTi's replacement, then I'm happy
to suggest the 40D. And the 40D's original price is only $300 above the
XTi's original price. ($500, if you want to include the kit lens.)

No, it didn't. It alleged that the XTi is discontinued. It isn't.

One day it will be. But not today.
