Would those in the know say there will be no new developments this year
in terms of Canon FF bodies? Like a new FF body, or a price drop on
    the 5D?

Trying to decide between the 30D and 5D for my first DSLR. I don't
really want to spend the money on the 5D, but the 5D + 24-105 f4 IS is
sooo tempting. I can see possibly using this combo for travel and not
needing any other lenses (maybe bring the 28 f1.8 for low light and/or
    discreet shooting).

    Thanks,
    Doug

My money is on a 5D price drop, either for the holidays or next
February/March, around PMA. If you can afford to wait six months, I
think it would be in your best financial interests. If not, the 5D and
30D are both great, and you can't go wrong with either, really, as long
as you know what the advantages and disadvantages of each is.

Though acually, with the 400D, I think we'll be seeing a crazy 20D/30D
and 400D hybrid called the 35D for the holidays. Just a guess, but that
lingering 8.2 megapixel camera that costs substantially more than the
400D seems like something that won't last.

  3. Wrong. Canon puts out new models at major shows any new models after
Photokina will not be until PMA in the spring of 2007.

You get better quality with the current 30d than the low end XTi.

  4. Those really in the know are under NDA's, but there'll be enough
speculators. I am hoping for both the above.
What sort of photography do you prefer? I am tempted by the 5D, but can
wait; I have a 20D and an earlier backup.

Primarily travel photography - urban street shooting, candid people
    shots, architecture.

  6. Those in the know are probably bound by confidentiality agreements, so they
    wouldn't say anything.
