Discussion in 'Canon' started by Michael Bernstein, Nov 17, 2008.

  1. Canon has released Windows Codec version 1.4 (Vista (32bit) including SP1
and XPSP2/3), which includes the ability to view files from the EOS 50D, EOS
5D Mark II and PowerShot G1 in Windows Photo Gallery etc.

    Thanks for the info, Mike.
I downloaded the win codec and found out that I needed Windows Imaging
    Component.
I went to that site and did not find an "eng" file to install.
I installed the win codec anyway but can't see the thumbnails of RAW
files... or am I missing something?
You mentioned win photos gallery. What would this be, please?
    Thanks,
    Marcel

    Obviously you have Windows XP.

There is a free thrid party add in for explorer that lets you see the raw
file thumbs. Get it from ArcSoft.

This is what you need to see the RAWs in Windows explorer. The codec only
allows applications running under windows to see the files when you open
    them.

A bit confussing to be sure but ArcSoft lets you view the RAW thumbs and
the codec's let applications open them.
