I have a Canon S50 that is a couple of years old. I want to get another
battery and another compact flach card. I have a questions on each:

    1. On the battery, EBAY has non-OEM batteries for half the price of an OEM
with 1000-1200 mH. This is higher than the original battery that came with
the camera. Would putting in a battery with this much extra power hurt the
    camera?

    2. I currently have a Transcend compact flash card with 512 MB. I would like
to get a 1 or 2GB card for this camera. Is there any reason not to get this
type of capacity with this camera? Any recommendations oin a card?

    Thanks

  2. With the battery, as long as it is recommended for your camera, you will
    not have a problem.

The rating on the battery is about how long it will last. The amperage
(AH, or mAH) that the camera draws will not alter between batteries, as
long as the voltage is the same.

For this reason as long as the voltage is the same you will not have a
    problem.

With the flash card, if you go for something like a Sandisk Extereme III
1GB or 2GB you will be very happy, although these cards are quiet expensive.

If your not fussy about download speed, get something at least 66X
speed. I use an Apacer 100X 1GB card and it works very well.
Best to stick to a big name if you can - Sandisk, Kingston, Apacer,
    Trancend, etc
