The post on dpreview. (where Phil (the Canon WHORE) Askey has just
announced a zero-tolerance policy for disruptors, i.e., people that
    threaten Canon's golden reputation).

Your death knell has just rung.

For the additional $5300 here is what you get with the 1Ds Mark III:
    - Improved body with weather sealing
    - Improved AF
    - One frame per second
    - ...err... not much else?

Here is what the new $2700 offers than the $8000 1Ds doesnt:
    - An extra TWO stops of standard exposure, and THREE stops in expanded
    mode.
    - A *hugely* useful 1/2 resolution sRAW1 format.
    - Full HD video capture - if you like that kinda thing.

Now I realize that a lot of 1DsIII owners are going to crawl out of
the woodwork to bash me upside and down, but thats ok. The above
information really speaks for itself. I would like to extend a
personal and warm hearted "thank you" to both Sony and Nikon for the
wonderful competition that made this camera possible.

Now all I need to know is when/where I can buy one. Its a good day in
    Canon land.

Just as a matter of interest, do you think reduced format raw might be
hugely useful? Is it for people who can't afford memory cards or a
computer capable of dealing with full raw files with ease?

5d (and presumably Mk II) really isn't a camera for pj/sport. Weddings
    perhaps.
    That's it - a remote possibility.

  9. It's there for the same reason that you can have your camera
produce a lower resolution JPEG. It costs very little, and is
indispensabe to those who need it.

Anyone else see the irony of prematurely shortening shutter life by
    machine-gunning thousands of low-rez JPEGs?

  11. "If it's stupid and works, it's not stupid."

Anyone see the irony of having a camera as a tool and not using it?
Anyone see the irony of RichA knowing only how to machine-gun?
Anyone see the irony of RichA talkng about photography?

I would like it for time lapse but that's pretty unusual :)
