I was thinking of getting a cheap ebay Canon ZR series camcorder, but
I want to be sure that the ZR series has the Video IN/OUT so that I
can run my VHS tapes into the Camcorder and into the Computer in one
step (without having to record onto miniDV tape.) with the mini-DV
compression on the final digitized footage.
I have emailed Canon a week ago about this, but they are slow in
    replying...

    Thanks,

I had a ZR65MC which I used as a "snapshot" camera. It had passthrough
ability. You should be able to get one very cheap....CCD fail on these
things...everything else will work but you can't record. Makes a good
    ultra cheapy deck.
