I'm unable to download images from my Olympus C750 Ultra Zoom camera to
my Macintosh G3, which has a USB card that I installed.

The manual says downloading won't work unless the USB card is built into
the Macintosh. Is this true or is there a way around it?

The manual says if there's no built-in USB port, to use the serial port
with a mini Din 8-pin connector for the serial connection. Would such a
cable fit into the lower socket on the left side of the camera?

When I try to download, I get error messages that say, "Software needed
for the USB device C750UZ is not available. Do you want to look for the
software on the Internet?" When I press, "Yes", a message says, "Looking
for drivers" and then "Software for this device has not been found."

I'm able to use printers using the USB card I installed. For printing,
the printer drivers show up in the Chooser, but nothing shows up in the
    Chooser to represent the camera.

I have a beige, desktop G3 running OS 9.21, with 21 gigabytes of free space.

It's not true. The USB port is working fine. It's not recognizing
    the camera.
Did the camera come with a driver for OS 9? If not you may have to
go to OS X or find some other solution. Does the camera provide a
    different communications protocol?

I use my C-750 with Linux, where it is recognised as a bog-standard USB
mass storage device i.e. a disk. I have also used it with a Mac running
OSX 10.1 and 10.2 where the same happens. It should, AFAIK, be recognised
as such by _any_ normal USB-equipped computer be it Mac, PC, RISC OS, Sun
&c. If I were you I would simply see what is required for MacOS 9 to use
Mass Storage devices: you may need to download an Apple driver.
