can't open PDFs in CS2 but can in 7.

We have a system that generates PDFs online using PDFLib.
Every once in a while it generates some that our designers can't open
in their PhotoShop CS2's in Windows XP.
But I can in PhotoShop 7 on Linux just fine.

When they try to open them, they instantly get a "program error" and it
fails to open. Sometimes the same file will error with code =
    0x40010005.

If it makes a difference, when I open in it 7, it takes a LONG time to
open, saying it's rasterizing. But eventually opens fine.

I've checked the CS2 users' properties, and their scratch disks have
ample GB's of free space, and the allocated RAM are in excess of 700MB.

Any suggestions on what to check, or look into, or do?
    Thanks for any help!

    Liam,

Sounds like a font problem. ISTR that when creating PDF's from PS the fonts
need to be rasterized. Is this what PDFLib does or doesn't do?

    Thanks for the reply!
Oddly, it seems whenever this happens, it's on PDF's that actually
DON'T have any dynamically generated text on it. So, the problem may be
text/font related... but how when there IS NO text generated by PDFLib
    onto the image?

Come to find out, one designer with Photoshop CS2 on a WindowsXP CAN
open the file, although the other two designers can't.

    Very weird.
    Thanks again for the feedback!

    Wait, I take it back.
Come to find out the 3rd designer that CAN open the files, is using
    version 8, or CS.
What would happen that the newer CS2's can't open something 7 and CS
    can?!
Anyway, we can't really afford to downgrade the two CS2 users to CS. =/

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  6. Photoshop7? Are you using any TIFF images with compression? If so, try
saving the TIFF images without compression.

    Liam,

As no one else as come in on this I would take this to the Adobe Forum at
    http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/main.html
then choose your programme from the list on the left , in your case
Adobe Photoshop & AdobeImage Ready (make sure you select the correct O/S)
and register (free) to join the forum.
Your question will be seen by some of the dudes who actually write PS,
amongst others. So if they can't answer it for you, your problem doesn't
    exist ;-)

Er, not sure. I don't think so.
The images start out as uncompressed JPG's, which PDFLib then turns
    into PDFs.
I'm assuming they're compressed, because they're print ready images
(say, 11x8.5 at 300 dpi) that end up as 1MB PDF's.
But I don't think TIFF is involved....
