Capture SD thru S-video from the HD channel or the SD channel?

  1. I want to make a DVD of old SD COPS episodes from my city. I have the
SA8300 box so my only options is recording thru S-Video. I get a better
picture from the HD channel because the SD is analog, but the thing is
the HD channel has grey and black borders since its putting an SD show
into an 1080i format. So I am wondering which I should use to capture.
Should i just use the SD channel and keep it simple, or use the HD
channel and crop the area, then stretch it back maybe? Its kind of
    confusing...

Lets say I use the HD feed and crop out the borders. Now i have some
weird aspect ratio. If I capture it to MPEG-2 and set it at the normal
resolution, will the DVD player then take care of the stretching, or
would I have to do that beforehand?
