Clouds from above

    Yup! Interesting for something not done in post.

    At a guess I would say the colors were a result of a combined
    polarizing effect of your CPF + whatever polarizing film might have
    been included in the aircraft porthole/window construction. (or the
    effect of layered plastics used in some aircraft porthole/windows +
    your CPF.

    ....but then from time to time I have been known to be wrong.

    Yes, that may very well be it, I haven't seen this effect otherwise, but
    I kind of figured it may have had something to do with atmospheric
    refraction as well, where the light would spread differently when viewed
    from this altitude. But I would guess that the windows are polarized as
    well.
