Codec playing problems - how to change codec?

I Created a lot of mpeg-2 files of old videotapes using Sonic Showbiz. To
play on another PC with WMP, I had to install Showbiz (problem #1). On
second PC, I uninstalled Showbiz and the mpeg-2s would not play as expected
(could not find codec). I went into control panel, etc and I wrote down the
video codecs loaded, re-installed Showbiz, and looked at the video codecs
and they were the same (mpeg-2 now played of course).

So now I have a lot of mpg-2s that I would like to share with others that
will not have Showbiz, how do I do that? Now I am using Studio 8 as well as
tmpgenc to shrink some files. How do I force a program to create an mpeg and
use a codec that everyone can use? I'd like to have files that do not rely
    on Showbiz.

    Thanks,
    -Frank

Win XP, WMP 9 all latest updates.

I Created a lot of mpeg-2 files of old videotapes using Sonic Showbiz. To

Not unless these were some kind of non-standard mpegs. At most, WMP
should simply automatically download the needed codec. Anyway, you can
always render to mpeg1 which will work even on older PCs.

Or make (S)VCDs which you can play in most DVD players as well as
    newer computers..

MPEG2 is not free and is not part of Windows. To play it, some codec
or DVD player program always has to be installed.
To play it on any PC without extra software, use MPEG1.
    Cheers

Update: I decided to uninstall Showbiz and try installing a non-MS player.
While un-installing Showbiz, I also took out a decrypter and another player
(list of video codecs did not change). I rebooted and just for kicks tried
them and every single one works so far without Showbiz installed. Hmmm.
    Thanks for the replies
