Concise Advice from the Beeb

Discussion in 'Photography' started by Dave, Jan 10, 2005.

  1. For my final comments about the person using "me" as his signiture, see my
message posted just a few moments ago in response to a message from Brian.

Actually, I have already invested a good amount of money into digital. In
addition to film scanning technology, software, and so on, I just purchased
a new digital camera (Minolta Maxxum 7D) last month to replace the digital
camera previously used. I did that not with a renewed interest in digital,
but to reduce the inconsistencies between my digital and film cameras (my
film camera is a Maxxum 7). Since a digital camera is of lessor importance
to me, that will likely be the last major digital purchase for a number of
years (until I'm absolutely forced by technology to make a change). In the
meantime, for the reasons given, the primary focus of my photography will
    remain on film.

If you think about it, there is a valid point to that argument. If we look
at the paperless office example, it was quickly discovered that digital
documents lacked a level of legal veracity. As a result, business firmly
continued with signed, printed, documents, rendering the entire paperless
office idea a fantasy (at least for now). To some extent, something similar
will likely be the case with film. Of course, that clearly doesn't mean film
is superior, just that it may have an advantage in this regard.

Which is exactly why your overly enthusiastic response is absurd. [yes,
another comment on something I insisted would not be commented on again]

Of course, I could take exception to each of these. For example,
electronics moved to digital because it was cheaper to manufacturer,
purchase, and build with, resulting in increased profits all around, not
necessarily because any one digital electronic component was directly
superior to the electronic component it replaced (that was true in some
cases and not in others). The same, increased corporate profits, could be
said for the strong industry push behind the music compact disk years ago.
The move to digital television is a government mandate (the FCC addressing
frequency spectrum issues), not a move driven by consumers. And I think we
will end this decade without a total dominance of digital in photography
(just as after more than two decades, almost half the homes in America don't
have a computer). But, since each of these fall outside the realm of this
newsgroup focus, I'll avoid comment beyond that. Take care.

I see a history lesson is called for.

Have a look at my earliest posts in this NG:

Oh my god! I had completely forgotten about these posts where I actually
tried to help people with questions about digital! (that won't happen again)

And this is the post that the gang first attacked:
    Here is the whole thread:
Do I need to say I HATE GANGS?

Yes, that is the thread that turned me against these people. That is the
thread that inspired me to label these people (and anyone who supports them)
as "Digital Dullards". That is the thread that made me SNAP! And where I
decided that I would never again attempt to reason with even one more

Now please tell me *again* why I should explain/prove *anything* to people
who attacked me *first*? People who are clearly antagonistic to me. People
who condemned me *first*, ridiculed me *first*. People who banded together
as a gang to try and drive me out of this NG? I will see you all in HELL
before I waste my time proving anything to you jackasses. You made your bed
    now lie in it!

    Film best!
    F#CK YOU!

Uh-oh, I see we've got your attention again.
There is no gang, because that would presume that we are somehow
communicating with each other behind your back to orchestrate attacks.
Not happening. What is happening is that lots of individuals are
individually responding to your stupid statements.
Now then, now then, Mr Rumpelstiltskin, take another whiff of the
    oxygen tank and calm down..

Now I see how childish your reasoning abilities are, I can understand
why you consistently fail to respond in any coherent manner questions
    concerning your opinions on photography.
I honestly haven't heard this kind of reasoning since the playground.
Really "me", who did what to who first isn't a reason to get upset is

Nobody attacked *you*, they responded to the *claims* you made. You
shouldn't have taken it personally, because until you began behaving
like a complete asshole and spamming the threads, all "me" was an old
    man with a weird view.

You DONT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING, you've answered anyone who was seeking
to substantiate your opinion on film already by your behavior. You
were asked by several people to provide back-up and instead you resort
to name-calling and spamming. For most people, this answers it - you
were talking out of your arse and probably don't even *have* a film
You aren't a conspiracy loon are you? - You seriously think posters to
this NG singled *you* out? Do you think that news reporters on TV can
see into your room? Are you followed when you go out? Ever heard of
German nazi mind-controllers? - Get a life, or at least an aluminum
Nobody condemned you then, they just condemned your wild claims. If
you were ridiculed, that's your own fault for making absurd claims and
then systematically failing to back them up with any logic, reasoning,
or evidence. Instead you resort to name-calling.
I saw only one person suggest that other members complain to your ISP
for obvious TOS violations. This has nothing to do with your opinions
    - it has everything to do with your behavior.

I see NOBODY here who will publicly support your posting behavior, in
particular over the last week or so.
Well, at least you know where you are heading... not long now is it
    old man?
Hmm, you've resorted to quoting the Iraqi minister of information now?
    What next?
    Thanks, but no thanks.

I have not failed to notice your posts. Even though you are not engaging in
this thread on my behalf may I say that I consider you to be one of the
Heroes of Film and a personal friend? I recognize you to be a decent caring
person and I would like to wish you the very best!

    That's creepy.

Now look what you've done Mr Stewart, 'me' will be expecting a
    Christmas card this year.

We all have to burn in Hell, but not you sir, as you have now been
officially appointed a "hero of film", and of course, a *personal*

A direct quote from "me". He has labelled ALL who use digital as DULLARDS<
simply because, according to him, ONE person gave him crap, so in his eyes,
that makes everyone who uses digital a DULLARD.

Strangely, every one of those links is dead, as for people who ridiculed and
attacked you first, I beg to differ, I never did any of the things you claim
I did, I do believe that you instigated said rants toward me, before I ever
    came down on you.

We made our bed now lie in it?????, what the hell does that mean?. We outed
an idiot so, I can only assume its a compliment of some sort.

Bravo. And with that, these "discussions" should end, as should any replies
to such agitation, because right now as things stand, "me" is receiving far
more attention than he deserves to. In point of fact, that attention is
precisely what he desires the most, and in trying to punish him with
responses, people are instead rewarding him and encouraging him to post

Dwight stated it better than anyone, but it all boils down to: Don't Feed
The Trolls. Posting for the express purpose of agitation is trollish
behavior, pure and simple, and there is no need to respond to it. Even
though I've killfiled "me", I still have to view other's responses to him
(unless I want to killfile them also, which I don't). You know you're
right, so move on. It is not important to try and convince "me" that you're
right, which you can't do anyway.

And in keeping with that sentiment and in the interest of leading by
example, I hereby promise this will absolutely be my last response on this
topic to anyone. I just hope everyone else does the right thing and ignores
the rubbish that has spurred these senseless threads. Let's get the
signal/noise ratio in this group back on track, shall we? Thanks,
    Mike Kohary, Jan 21, 2005

  15. Take care, Brian. I'll look forward to talking to you in another thread,
    clearly on another topic.

    Dwight Stewart, Jan 21, 2005

  16. LOL. Well, that's truly the first time I've been described as a hero of
film. Regardless, until given a reason to think otherwise, I consider
everybody to be a friend. As such, I have no conflict with the above.

    Dwight Stewart, Jan 21, 2005

  17. LOL. Well, even you have to admit it is better to hero of film than to
    burn in hell.

    Dwight Stewart, Jan 21, 2005

  18. Considering the number of times I moved in my life (within the USA and
overseas), that would be virtually impossible.
