My Sony CCD-FX500E 8mm Video Camera has finally died and I have some 8mm
analogue tapes which I want to transfer to my computer.

My Options appear to be as follows --

1/ Get Video Professionally transferred to DV/DVD (this is no go on cost)
2/ Hire a Sony Digital 8 Camera and convert to DV on computer via firewire
3/ Buy a Sony Digital 8 Camera and then sell afterwards.

I am leaning towards 3/ but am having trouble finding a reasonablly
priced Digital 8 Camera as it appears not all of the Sony Digital 8
Cameras will play analog 8mm tapes and output them as DV on firewire.
Any help pointing me towards a suitable camera would be appreciated.

I recently bought a Sony TRV355E from DABS at a substantial discount as it
is last year's model. It was the only model in the Handycam range to be able
    to process 8mm tapes.

It successfully reads my analogue 8mm tapes and is a pleasure to use. It's
digital recording quality is excellent too. It can be Firewire connected to
a PC for transfer. I would recommend it to anybody.

    Regards.
