Converting Quicktime Movies

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by Bill Anderson, Nov 24, 2003.

  1. I have a PowerPoint presentation that was created on a Mac and I want to
show it on a PC. The embedded movies won't play -- my PC PowerPoint
(Office 2003) tells me it can't play them. Needs a codec it doesn't have.

I've read that Mac Quicktime movies need to be "flattened" if they're to
play on a PC in PowerPoint. The .mov files play just fine on my PC, but
only from within a QuickTime window. I can even link from PowerPoint to
the .mov files, but then I get the QuickTime window within PowerPoint
and it appears in the upper left of the slide and I have to re-size it
every time and close it when it's over and that's not how I want the
    presentation to work.

I can use Premiere 6.5 to convert the .mov files to .avi files, and they
will play nicely in my PowerPoint presentation. But the quality suffers
from the conversion. I get artifacts and banding and it's just crappy.

Anybody know how to make a QuickTime movie created on a Mac play nice
with PowerPoint on a PC? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
