I was just browsing some of the online camera stores and noticed that
the Coolpix 5700 has dropped by $200-300; $1533 @ dirtcheapcameras for
    instance.
I thought that it might just be them but it seems that a number of
    retailers have dropped their prices.
Does anyone know why the price is dropping now?
Is there a replacement model on the way?

Dunno, but I suspect the arrival of the Fuji 7000 this month will tend
    to force prices down.

Isn't it obvious? The 300D has been released for the same price that
the Nikon 5700 has been selling for. Now the 5700 has a very nice lens
with ED elements, great zoom and good macro, but who in their right
mind will buy it over a digital SLR?
