NO! You cannot squeeze 4.7GB of binary data from a DVD ROM onto a 700MB CD.

Perhaps you meant DVD Video? There are programs that will recode and
compress DVD video into a much lower quality format (VCD or SVCD) that can
be stored on a CD-R and played back in most domestic DVD players. Even then,
you can only fit 80 minutes of VCD video or 30 minutes of SVCD video on a
700MB CD-R. I get about 10 SPAM messages per week offering me this kind of
    software.

Look at www.dvdrhelp.com and www.afterdawn.com for help to get you started.

i use acidrip on linux (belive a windowz version exists) to copy dvd's to cd
but i dont think a dvd will play the output, a avi file. You could try one
of the other formats it can rip to but i havent tryed this. i use avi and
mp3 output codecs and get a movie to around 660mb. before i installed the
mp3 codec for audio the output was 4gb so audio takes up most of the space
    i guess.
