Created "mottled" look from a solid color

Discussion in 'Photoshop' started by John H. Power, Nov 22, 2004.

  1. I saw a portrait photo recently where the background was gray but it
was mottled rather than one solid consistent color. You know, kind of
like the backgrounds pro photographers use when shooting portraits.

I filled a new file with gray and tried every which way to create
that mottled look but could not figure out how to do it.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Sorry. Header should say "create" not "created"

Try Filter>Render>Difference Clouds, stretch with free transform if
necessary, and change the overal darkness by adjusting with levels.

  4. Thanks. That worked pretty well.

Also, adding noise and doing a Gaussian Blur afterward might help.
