I am googling...but, since CS4 does not ship with any manuals....how are we
supposed to learn about 3D and see some examples? Any current links you can
    recommend?

    Like creating a mesh, etc.

And, what is the purpose of having it in Photoshop versus 3D Max or Maya? I
    am so confused. ;)

    Right in Photoshop CS4
    In the Help menu:
    How to work with 3D

Also under Help subjects you can enter "3D" and a number of resources
    will be provided.

I am googling...but, since CS4 does not ship with any manuals....how are
    http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html (scroll down a bit)
also on layerstv.com (the show, top right) there's some great stuff by Corey
    Barker.

PS CS4ex isn't as sophisticated regarding 3D as eg. Maya, 3DS or similar,
but it has some great advantages: you don't have to leave the program for
    "simple" 3D anymore,
re-import and find out not everything is working as expected (texturemaps!)
and therefore wasting time to get them to act properly.
    It just works (great)
    Enjoy!
