Different kinds of OFF for EOS 350D?

Is there any difference in power consumption between manually switching
off the EOS 350D and allowing it to turn itself off automatically? I
often forget to switch off, and I wonder if I'm running down the
battery significantly. Obviously switching off prevents anything from
happening if the shutter button gets pushed accidentally, but does it
    save power?

  2. Yes, there's a difference, but it's not significant over the short term.
In other words, during an event I leave the camera on, but I make sure
it's off when I get home and remove the card for processing.

Thanks. I'll do the same, and try to remember to switch off for the
long term, if I can get my brain to pay attention. Maybe I can get in
the habit of turning it off when I put it back in the bag.
