    I'm scanning a good 35mm slide using a HP4890, at 1200dpi and 300% (or other
combinations such as 3600dpi and 100%). I've turned off all scanner
processing (no sharp, no colur adjustment, no levels adjustment, etc.) as
    I'm using Photoshop to post-process.

When I look at the detail at high zoom there are obvious differences between
the scanned images. In particular the ability to differentate fine detail
in the enlarged image varies alot - some images are just a blur while others
show good detail. In theory this shouldn't happen !!

Also I scanned a slide placed directly on the glass (not using the TMA), and
for one slide the fine detail was very clear - although another slides
scanned without the TMA were less clear.

    Any thoughts? TIA.

  2. I'm not that familiar with the HP4890 but I had a similar problem with my HP
ScanJet 4C until I took it apart and cleaned the rails. Perhaps the head is
not moving at a constant speed.
