Digital Camera advice needed Ricoh GR Digital

Discussion in 'Ricoh' started by Greenbrightly, Aug 1, 2007.

  1. Hi,

I am looking to buy a new digital camera and have read good things
about the GR digital, do you guys have any opinons on it?

I want something ideally with a good lense, wide angle pref and
something where I am able to control the depth of field manually. My
current camera is more of a point and click type of thing but I would
like to try and experiment a little more and understand the techical
aspects. I used to have an SLR, Olympus OM10 years ago and really
    enjoyed using that.

    Any advice would be appreciated

The GR Digital is a bit of an acquired taste but those who love it, really
love it. It has a good lens, but it's fixed at 28mm and you'll need to shoot
RAW and post process to get the best out of it.

You won't be able to control depth of field to any extent though. Even
though you have manual control of aperture, on a camera with a wide angle
lens and a small sensor, you will almost always have huge depth of field,
whether you want it or not. Only extreme close ups will give you the chance
to blur the background, but any small digicam will do that.

Check the Ricoh forum on www.dpreview.com for many more opinions.
