haven't done much photography since using a Vietnam war era Pentax SLR back
in the early 70's, so I guess I'm in the point & shoot class.
Now I'm heading back to Thailand and want to take some decent photos, unlike
    last time.
Then I borrowed an early model Nikon Coolpix and didn't much like it. In
daylight the LCD was useless ( and the fact I need glasses for close up
stuff like reading etc). Also the low light shots and/or using the inbuilt
flash ie campfire, restaurant scenes were crap to say the least, compared to
my friends Fuji. Other than that it was OK.

What I would like is a camera that:
    a) robust enough to stand up to spending a few days trekking in sometimes
    very wet/humid conditions
    b) can take reasonably "wide" landscape pics, street scenes etc
    c) decent low light shots, sans flash preferably - without reverting to a
    d) anti-shake would probably be a good thing.....I guess
    e) open to suggestions for things I may have not considered

Oh, and compact to boot :) Am I asking to much?
