I was where you are about one month or so ago...
Suggestions: read read read..... reviews, manuals, stats.. etc. then go to
the camera store and hold it.. shoot it, use the menu change settings...
look at the manual again. Go to the Canon and Nikon web site and read
somemore. Most stores have a 15 return policy. I took advantage of this. It
was a close call........ I ended up with the Nikon D100.

Reasons for me: It felt better in my hand, I asked the camera store to put
the MB-D100 batt pak on and shot with it... loved it. I also really like the
Digital voice recorder that tags a wav to the pic. I have used this more
than I ever thought I would. Battery life (with 2 batteries in the MB-D100)
is a big thing to me when on an all day long shoot. I was on my first
location shoot 2 weeks ago with the new camera. I shot over 700 pics with
moderate LCD usage and the batteries were still going. (not to mention they
were generic batteries I purchased from Ebay). Also, the menu was more
intuitive to me than the Canon. I still have my old Canons, but fear they
will get little use during the rest of their lives.

Either camera takes great pics, find the one you feel most comfortable with.

    Good Luck
