Digital TVs?

Found a brilliant offer in Tescos for a digital TV, when I got it home and
set it up, I tried to get to the teletext and show the subtitles as I'm a
bit hard of hearing, on the present TV the subtitles are on page 888, but
putting that number into the Dig TV produced some rubbish, on trying to
select subtitles using the set up procedure, prompted a message telling me
to press a button on the set top box, which of course I did not have as it
    was a Dig TV.

Does that mean I will be unable to select subtitles on any Dig TV?

Sorry about making this post in the wrong newsgroup, but there was no
mention of a button marked 'Sub' or 'STTL', I've now returned the Tv as
    being unsuitable for my purpose!

    Thanks anyway.

Will now copy to the proper newsgroup!

Seems really odd, I've got a variety of Freeview receivers (and PVRs) some
dating back to On-digital and they all have a subtitle button (which on the
three working ones I've checked) all produce clear subtitles, so it's
difficult to understand why it is a feature apparently not incorporated in a
state of the art Freeview TV.

  4. I seeme to remember that the early OnDigital Nokia box did not have any
obvious subtitle button, but had a well-hidden facility whereby you
pressed a combination of keys to produce titles. Very strange!
