Dimage A2 - get the Viewer download

Discussion in 'Digital Cameras' started by David Kilpatrick, Apr 7, 2004.

  1. For anyone using the A2, or earlier Dimage series cameras, please visit
Minolta's website/s and get the 2.3.3 viewer download (it does require
your CD to be inserted to validate it, which is annoying, and it does
not install reliably on a Mac - and the instructions are confusing).
However with a bit of thought these aspects are overcome.

The results from the A2, which I was not at all happy with, are
transformed completely by using the 2.3.3 software for RAW conversion.
Mushy confused detail and high noise levels are pretty much removed and
the quality of the file begins to resemble the earlier 5 megapixel
images but larger - instead of looking much worst at pixel level.

I'm glad I downloaded this before concluding that 8 megapixel cameras
are not much use in this sensor size.

  2. David,

Thanks for that. I am currently evaluating the A2, but I will be shooting
JPEG and not RAW (can't afford the CF space or the time to process!), so I
will be stuck with the in-camera processing.

I find it most annoying to see the high quality of the image spoilt by the
processing artefacts across line edages (not JPEG artefacts) and it's one
of the major reasons I may send the camera back. The viewfinder is
    wonderful, though!

I had thought that the A2 might fix the A1 known in-camera processing
defects - what a great opportunity has been lost!

  5. www.minolta.com gets you there - you have to go through the SOFTWARE
links to the download pages appropriate to your own region and language etc

    or wwww.konicaminolta.com, or www.konicaminolta.de, or co.uk

They are all ultimately the same site
