Does anyone know what causes the audio to be out of sync with the video?

I've downloaded short video clips of music in mpg and found the sound
out of sync with the picture.
I've also had the same problem when playing back a short video clip
that I've transferred to the hard drive using a video editor and
sending the video from the VHS player through the camera and to the
I use the PAL system which has a different frame rate than NTSC so
    maybe that is the problem.
I'm using a 7200 speed IDE hard drive on a AMD 1900Mhz computer with
128Mb of memory and a 32Mb accelerator video card.

Does anyone know the cause of this problem?
Has anyone found a way to fix this problem?

load it to tmpg and strip out the sound and work out how far fwd or back it
is and add a bit or chop a bit from the sound and remultiplex it. for more.......

    Hi everyone:

I've had this happen with a lot of DiVx encoded videos. sometimes they'll
play right the first time or two then *WHAMMO!*, it's like you've just
downloaded another video. Not in sync at all.

Yet when i run it through TMPEnc AS IS (no audio stripping or anything), it
goes back into sync and stays that way as if it were never out of sync to
    begin with.

I tend to think it's that STUPID watermark they put in their codec which you
see at the beginning of every DiVx encoded video you see that makes them act
the way they do. If they just simply REMOVE the stupid thing, they wouldn't
    have that problem IMO.
There was another site I saw which was just as informative, but I don't
think I bookmarked it (No, it's not either). Sorry... :-(

But yes, go to if you need more help. :)

    Good luck. :)

    Cheers for now :)
