I know that here in OZ I can buy Digital TV tuner card, both standard & high
definition, for my PC. I also know that I can get encoders that will in
real time encode to MPEG2. Are there any products that will do both things
at once so that you can record a digital 16:9 signal off the air & save in
real time to formats like MPEG2, MPEG4, DIVX etc. Even better if you can
input AVI's etc. as well. Do such products exist yet?

Doesn't TIVO do that? MPEG4 isn't it? With a little hacking it can be put
on a network and sent to the computer

To the best of my knowledge TIVO hasn't been released in OZ & I have heard
of no plans to do so.

  6. It hasn't been released, but there is a active group is Brisvegas, who
import them, modify and hack them to be useful for Australia. There
was an article sometime ago in the SMH about this, but if you Google
around a bit and limit your search to Australian pages, you might find
    some more info.

    cheers
