Dropping frames when capturing from jerky source

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by Ville Saarelainen, Sep 5, 2003.

  1. I have a Hauppauge WinTV Go card and I've captured TV programs and VHS
tapes over three years with VirtualDub, and without problems. But now I
have a VHS tape which contains a program recorded from digital satellite
receiver, and the image is very jerky at times (thanks to "excellent
quality" digital broadcast). It's not hard to guess what that means:
dropping lots of frames and a/v badly out of sync. :-(

I use Windows 98SE and those _old_ VFW drivers which were on the
Hauppauge installation CD. Is there any driver or capture program which
will repeat the last frame instead of dropping it, when the capture card
gets confused by unsteady signal? That might solve my problem???

  3. I tried it, found "insert drops as full frames" setting and it worked! I
just captured the program and compressed it to DivX. Of course the video
is as jerky as the source, but at least a/v sync is OK. Thanks for the
tip! Well, I'll still use VirtualDub but now I know what to do next
Time base corrector would be nice thing but only more expensive VCRs
have it, my not-so-expensive one of course doesn't.
