DV time-code in Pinnacle (8 & 10)

Discussion in 'Video Cameras' started by Andrew Engels Rump (formerly Leif Andrew Rump), May 9, 2006.

  1. When I capture from my DV camera using Pinnacle 8 it splits the
shots using to time-code (I know that for sure because I hadn't
set the time and date on the camera when I made the first few
shots and they where not split).

Does Pinnacle store the time-code somewhere because I have
looked and searched in the program, the manuel and on the
internet and haven't been able to find it!

Does Pinnacle version 10 provide access to the time-code?

The timecode is on the DV-tape in your CamCorder
    Yes...

  3. It is also in the captured file itself. Go with Windows Explorer,
right-click on the file and Properties...

P.S. Only for DV-AVIs. MPEGs have no such timecode.

Yep (I can see it when I play back the video on my CamCorder), but
is it grabbed by Pinnacle when the video is captured?
But that is not available in version 8, right?

Hmm. Properties gives me a General and a Summary banner. The
Summary gives me the possibility to view the information in
Simple or Advanced. The simple view is not filled out and the
Advanced view contains the following information: Width, Height,
Duration, Bit rate, Audio sample size and format, Frame rate and
    Data rate. That's it!

I am looking for the time-codes for each shot.

  7. Not in the clips' browser. It should be able (it was a long time ago)
to do scene detection based on the timecode.

Plugins exist to superimpose the timecode on the video stream. I am sure
for Studio 9 and Studio 10, not sure about Studio 8.

  8. No timecode of the video? Strange... On XP Pro SP2 I get it.

The clip browser of Studio 9 and Studio 10 do show the timecode
associated to each scene, once scene detection has been completed.
The output of the scene detection algorithm is stored in a hidden
file, side-by-side with the video clip file itself.
Use the clip browser of Studio or get a plugin to superimpose the
timecode to the video stream. I believe ScenalyzerLive also
shows the timecode associated to DV-AVI streams.

P.S. I'd love to drink 3 Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters but I don't
want to go so far just to get plastered ;-)
