    Hi,

Does anyone know how to use the Minolta Dynax 5 fill flash capability
manually? I can't figure out how to adjust the flash.

    Thanks, Bas.

    Hi Bas,

I believe if you simply raise the flash (press little "flash" button) on
the 5 it will fire (forcing speed to sync or less). (In some sits you
may need to hold the flash button in to force it to fire...see the
manual). This might be too strong for fill. The Maxxum 5 does not
have flash compensation (the Maxxum 7 and 9 do).

    Options:
    1) If you are using an attachment flash like the 5600HS, then you could
meter the flash in the manual mode of the flash and then adjust the
flash setting downward (1 stop increments from 1/1 down to 1/32). You
need a flash meter to do this. (I'm not sure if you can do this with
    the 3600HS...probably).

    2) Neg. film. In S-priority (at a speed equal or less than max sync),
set the exposure compensation down 1/2 stop. This will give a fill
effect without too much under exposure. (May work in "P" mode also).

    3) Slow sync. On a tripod with the exp comp 1/2 stop down, hold the AEL
button while you depress the shutter.

2 & 3 above are compromises and will not work well with slide film, and
    will not give optimum fill.

    Cheers,
    Alan.
