Am travelling Oz and have a particular interest in birds of prey.
Currently only have a point and click digital camera which doesn't do
    any justice to the subject.

Any advice on a more suitable (but affordable) camera??

  3. Played a little bit with Panasonic Lumix FZ20 and it´s impressive:
    5Mpixel, 12x zoom 36-432mm equivalent, f:2.8, stabilized.
    $599.99 MSRP.

Also the FZ15 seems interesting (4Mpixel, all the rest the same).
    $499.99 MSRP.

    Or the 3Mpixel version FZ3 ($399.99 MSRP).

I don´t know street prices there (in Italy FZ20 is sold for 700 €, so
    definetely more than 600US$).

    Regards - Enrico

I've used Sigma APO 400 f5.6 on Canon (film) SLR. Seems good. If you could
get one and put it on a digital Canon, it should be really good I'd think.
