Anyone have recommendations for a flash card reader?

    Camera: Canon A520 Powershot.

    Computer: MS Windows XP.

I'm looking for something cheap, simple, and reliable.

I've never had a problem with any of my card readers, and several of them
were of the free-after-rebate variety. For SD/MMC cards, I quite like the
small pocket-sized versions that plug directly into a USB port -- they're
convenient to use as a USB drive, and small enough to stick into your
pocket or camera case. If you're using large-ish memory cards, you'll
want to look for USB2.0 "high-speed" for fastest transfer rates
(USB2.0 "full-speed" is just 12mb/s) I think the one I use for CF is
made by ZIO and it seems quite a bit faster than my USB2.0 multi-reader
(using 1GB Sandisk Ultra II cards).

Check Fry's (www.outpost.com) if you are in the US. You can probably
    find one for under $10.
