    Hi

I'm looking for a decent Flash to use with my Nikon Coolpix and Canon EOS
    cameras

    Which ones would you recommend

(do I have to buy two flash guns or will one work with both?)

And how much do they cost?

    Many thanks

  2. I have no idea what would work on Coolpix, but if it has a hot
shoe, any flash except dedicated Minolta ones will. For Canon
I always recommend dedicated ones, however, if it's the older
EOS, it probably doesn't have E-TTL, so 430EZ should be plenty
o'flash for it, and it will work on a regular camera too.

Here is a nice page: http://www.kjsl.com/~dave/speedlites.html
with dedicated Canon flashes gathered in one table.
430EZ costs about $145 new. You can probably find a used one
for less than a hundred bucks.

$well since the electric pins are totally
$different as well as the software and
$other things, you need two different
    $flashes.

Or one flash with two adapters. If you require a flash that works
with both, look at the Metz line of flashes, which use modular
adapters to allow the same flash to work with a variety of bodies.
They even have an app on their Web site that tells you the appropriate
adapter for a given combination of flash unit and body, and which
    features that combination supports.[/QUOTE]
