Flash & Nikon D1

Discussion in 'Nikon' started by lll llllllll lll lllllllllllll, Oct 20, 2003.

  1. Can I use a Vivitar 283 or 285 flash on the Nikon D1( realizing that I will
lose all auto functions ) without damage to the camera?.

  2. Yep, no probs,
The camera will fire the flash when you fire the shutter.
You will need to set the flash to match your aperture.
The camera won't be damaged in any way.

I wouldn't use a 283 unless it was a fairly late model, and even then I'd
call Nikon first. The trigger voltages used in '283's was fairly high. You
could add a Wein unit: <http://www.weinproducts.com/safesyncs.htm> between
the flash and the body to be safe(r). I wouldn't put a 283 on my D1x, btw.
