I am trying to get my new Fuji 3800 to connect thru the USB port. The
software installs with no errors, but no dismountable drive icon
appears and connecting the camera does nothing.

Are there conflicts with ASPI drivers? I use Nero 5.5, but I tried
Fuerio and had to install aspi drivers from the Adaptec site.

    Thanks

Yes, I know I should just get a card reader!

Do you see an EXIF Launcher in the system tray?

You won't see a drive icon, but rather the Fuji software will start up, and
show you previews of what is on the card.

The launcher is in the system tray, but the Fuji software does not launch.

According to the manual, there should also be lights flashing on the
    camera, this doesn't happen either.

I had a similar problem that turned out to require repair of the camera
and replacement of some of the innards. Before I sent it for repair I
tried the camera on several different computers (and Operating systems)
and saw similar symptoms- the camera indicated "DSC" but the light on
top never flashed and a disk never appeared.

If checking the drivers doesn't help make sure you are set to DSC and
    not PC CAM.

If all else fails, find a friend with another PC (or, dare I say a Mac
running OSX since that doesn't need any drivers) and see if the problem
    is in the Camera.

  6. Shucks, I am a novice/beginner just like you! :)
I have the S5000, however, I am using XP on my desktop, and Windows 2000 on
    my note book.
My S5000 connected right up. Also, the Software must be installed BEFORE
    you hook the camera up.
If you didn't do it that way, I would advise you uninstall the software.
Disconnect the camera, reinstall the software,
then connect the camera. See what happens then. Also, someone else suggested
to take it to another computer, and
install there. If it works there, it is your computer that has some faults..

By the way, the s3800 is just like the s5000, great little camera. And so
far, I think I hit the number with this one..

    Luck,

It is a general rule of thumb that with any USB device you install the SW
before plugging your device into the system. It is also very important that
your camera is in "playback" mode when trying to upload images to the PC. I
had no problem connecting the 3800 to the system, even without installing
any sort of SW previously. Just plugged it in, turn the camera to "Playback"
and the camera wizard came up on my monitor screen immediately.

Thanks to all who responded. I installed USB ports on another computer
and then the Fuji 3800 software and it all worked properly. I still
don't know why the original computer doesn't work as other USB devices
work properly. But, I am satisfied for now.

    Thanks again
