A good review reflecting all the pros and cons I've experienced with this
camera. I bought it last spring (04) to replace my ageing Sony S-70
(wouldn't buy Sony again - they seem out to rip you off with overpriced
accessories you need to make the camera functional).
One problem not mentioned was that earlier models would run the batteries
down in one day, but Fuji will fix this problem for free.

    Stewy,

    Thanks for your reply!

I did not know about the battery problem. Did it happen to you?

Out of interest, have you had the focus swith set to MF by mistake and not
realised? I'm just wondering how many people get caught by this. As a friend
pointed out, if the camera doesn't "bebeep", you know you don't have focus
lock. Still, new users may not know that it should beep liek this. I know
that you can turn off the shutter sound and navigation sounds, but I'm not
sure if that also turns off the focus lock beep. I don't have the camera any
more to try it, sadly. Oh well!

    Thanks again for your reply,
    Saul

  4. Does this problem occur when using a CF card instead of an XD card? When I
use a CF card the power runs right down but not so with an XD.

    That IS the problem.

On some of the earlier S7000, there was a problem with short battery life if
a cf card was left in the camera.

Fuji will fix it for free, should you ask them to.

Mine didn't have the problem, but some did. I learned of the free fix on
    Dpreview (I think).

Yes. It's only with CF cards. It took Fuji just 6 days from me mailing it to
them to getting it back. Batteries now last a week or more. Only problem is
I have 12 Nimh batteries and don't need 4 of them.

  7. I have the S700, great camera. I especially like the way it handles
colors. I have the CF/Battery issue but too lazy to have it fixed
because I use the XD and a MicroDrive (Which is OK). Also, I'm ALWAYS
hitting that stupid manual focus button! But as with other cameras, one
should go through a checklist to make sure everyting is set right I guess.

If Fuji won't help you, I think I read that the "unfixed" compact flash
slot can be used for an IBM microdrive without any problem.

  10. There are also some CF cards that work just fine. For example, the
Transcend card that I've been using works perfectly. I believe the review
at Steve's Digicams mentions several other brands that work fine as well.

If you let Fuji do the free fix, all working cf cards woll work without
    problem.
