Fuji S7000 recommended?

Does anyone recommend the Fuji FinePix S7000? I have read mostly
NEGATIVE reviews on various digital camera websites. I like how this
camera feels in my hands. I am looking for a 6MP camera. My last
camera was a Kodak DC4800, and I was happy with the output of that
one, but I want great pictures, along with full manual controls, and I
am ready to 'step up' to a better one. I was, however, contemplating
on a Kodak DX7630, but that one does not allow for an external flash.
I don't plan to shoot 6MP pictures, but it is nice to have that
option. (Plus the available $100 rebate from Fuji!!!)

I want to have great pictures in the Auto mode, along with a great
flash range. Is the S7000 flash range really 28 feet?

    Thanks
    -John-

Yes. It will take a while to recharge and keep a second set of NiMH ready.
With an external flash, one can shoot more pictures with less waiting.
So if you know you are going to shoot a lot of pictures in indoor or low
light, bring an external flash does help.

Another good use of S7k+2.2GB microdrive is to use it as a non-hidden
    camcorder.
Wear it in front of your body. Install a fresh NiMH set. Turn it on in 320x240
video mode(1 hour) and do whatever you want to do. People think it is a camera
wearing on your neck as a bag.
No one is suspecting you are video recoding everything.

Have you taken a photo of the same thing with the Kodak and the Fuji to compare
them? I'd be very interested to see unmodified samples.

Is there any chance you could try it, say a photo of a landscape at wide-angle,
and post both on the net somewhere?
