I was looking at the wrong date, it is from January, 2008.

But that doesn't explain the bogus URLs (DVinfo appears to be
munging them.) or the currently listed price of $299 (vs. the
claimed $99) There is also some confusion about whether the
*pro* upgrade will work from the *consummer* version.

Richard, the B&H links the OP provided were indeed messed up.
The DV Info thread is a good one though and explains a lot of potential
    pitfalls and workarounds.
Vegas 6 is the pro version as is Vegas Pro 8.
The consumer version is Vegas Movie Studio,
DV Info isn't munging the links as that's the way they appear on their
page (to avoid very long links being broken up by line breaks).
The deal is legitimate and anyone considering buying Vegas Pro 8 should
consider it as it offers a substantial savings over buying it from Sony
    - or anywhere else for that matter.
Paul Tauger (ptravel in this NG) was the OP on the DV Info thread.
I haven't heard if he likes Vegas in comparison to Premier Pro though.
Paul, if you're reading this, how do you like it so far?

It doesn't explain why the link that they claim is "$99" is
displaying $299 when I look at it. Am I missing something?

I'm actually interested in experimenting with this if it is legit.

Yes Richard, this is a legitimate deal.
Ignore the B&H links that the OP provided as they're severely messed up.
Either follow the ones in the very first post on the DV Info forum or
    use these ones.
    Vegas 6 ($79.00):

    Vegas Pro 8 ($99.00):

I've recommended it to a few folks and haven't heard any complaints,
only thanks for saving them at least $250 :)
You get your serial numbers from B&H and not Sony and you must use those
Having said that, one guy on the DV Info forum did have installation
issues, contacted Sony and got a new serial number for Vegas Pro 8.
Be advised that you MUST install Vegas 6 first and validate it before
    installing 8 Pro.

Do you have some special way of clicking your mouse or something? :)
When I click on that link, it always says $299 (and back-ordered)

    My apologies Richard.
I know that price was $99 only a few weeks ago :-(
It looks like B&H either got word from Sony about the great price or
    realized that were undercharging.
Looks like it's cheaper to buy it direct from Sony (after buying Vegas 6
    from B&H, that is).
    Vegas Pro 8 upgrade ($234.95):

Get off my ass, so I made a mistake trying to spread a good deal.

    Hi Richard,

The only link I had wrong was the Vegas 6 link. Sorry about that.
The upgrade price has gone from $99 to $299 at B&H BUT it is still $99 at
If that link is incorrect for some reason just search Vegas 8 Pro.

I just ordered mine from B&H a couple days ago so they must have just raised
    the price.
