I was thinking about purchasing one of these spot meters. Any
opinions? Is this a good investment?

There are two attachements with "similar" names. One is a true 1 degree
spot meter attachment that goes for around $130 or so in good condition.
The other one is an attachment that gives you a couple of reduced
acceptance angles and goes for around $30 in good condition. If you mean
the 1 degree spot and you really need one, go ahead. I don't think the
other one is a good investment. You can simply walk closer to the
subject to get the area you want metered. Alternatively, just switch
    the meter to incident mode.

I use "the othr one" on a regular basis in professional applications. I can
assure you that "simply walk closer" is not always an option.

How does it compare to other "high end" spot meters?

You'd be amazed at the "names" I've seen on eBay for the low end one. :)
