I'm considering buying a digital SLR, and I already have these lense
(Minolta 85/1.4, 50/1.4) from an old 700si film camera. Do these lenses
work well on any current digital cameras?

    Cheers,

  2. Absolutely. Lenses for your 700si or any other Minolta (or Konica Minolta)
Maxxum or Dynax camera will work just fine on Konica Minolta's digital SLRs,
    the Maxxum 5D and 7D.

Konica Minolta recently sold their camera business to Sony, and reportedly
Sony will be producing digital SLRs that will accept those lenses also. But
there is no firm news about this yet that I'm aware of.

Great! I was considering a Nikon, but if this is the case I need to
compare them more now. Thanks for the heads up.

I've had these lenses maybe 15 years now, when I had the 7000. Is there
any chance these are not maxxum lenses, some pre-dated style? It does
not say Maxxum on them anywhere.

  5. Dean-

I have the 8000i and 9xi. The lenses I checked only had Minolta on the
barrel, but also had Maxxum on the front of the lens (including the 50mm
    f/1.4).

If yours are marked "Minolta" and fit the 7000, then they are most likely
the same lenses. It is my understanding that Maxxum was the name used on
bodies and lenses intended for the U.S. market. Equipment intended for
other countries may have been named "Dynax" instead.

  6. Looking at a few of my own Maxxum lenses just now, some of them say Maxxum
on the bezel around the front element, but others do not say Maxxum
    anywhere.

If your lenses worked on your old Maxxum 7000 and your 700si, they should
work fine on the new digital Maxxums.

Sony seemed to be in the Zeiss lens orbit. It will be good if they
continue to make bodies with the Minolta mount.
