My name is called RiceHigh and I am new to this group. I am a long-time
Pentax SLR and DSLR user. I don't know if someone here knows me or not
as I used to be active in the Dpreview forums and is still
    participating in the PhotoZone forum.

I have introduced myself more in-depth in my homepage:
    http://www.geocities.com/ricehigh

Well, beside introducing myself over there, my page also has quite some
articles about all the technical related stuff on exposure and exposure
accuracy for Digital SLRs. I also carried out quite a number of
exposure accuracy tests (which I called them "exposure measurbation
tests" ;-) ). Just feel free to go to my Home to have a look if you are
    interested in the topic.

About ten years ago, I did post in the rec.photo.equipment.35mm where
at that time was the only newsgroup for photo gear discussions and now
that I can see it has new groups on digital gear. Indeed, I have a good
feeling of re-visiting an old place/home where I came from :)

See you folks all later for future posting and discussion!

Me too. Just one day here and I feel that people here are much more
friendly than those at Dpreview forums. It is indeed so far so good and
as good as the PhotoZone.de forum which is my favourite forum too (for
    more than five years).

Also, here has a good atmostsphere for freedom of speech since there is
no conflict of interests and thus moderation/censorship by any "site
    owner" is indeed non-existent :)

Do you live in Germany or a related language speaking area?
That part is true, but there are any number of personal conflicts that seem
to arise and oddly (like in real life) everyone pretty much seems like a
"good guy" to me but some are mean to each other. Go figure. :)

If you're coming back to the news groups you might stop by
rec.photo.equipment.35mm and check out the shootin "competion". Current
    mandate is Low Light...

I enjoyed your site already and learned a new word (measurbator) and that
sent me to google where I found this interesting bit of humor (aka:truth) -
    http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/7.htm

That's a good way to start off the day - with a smile. Thanks. :)

Not really. The PhotoZone.de is primarily an English site :) I live in
    Hong Kong, btw.

I agree mostly regarding the conflicts of interests amongst people.
It's Life! But as long as I don't have conflicts of interests between
the "site owner", I shall feel better and will be able to express
    myself.

Kenrockwell article is funny and a good entertainment. I read it the
first time several years ago. I do find his points made in his "7
levels" "thesis" are actually right and correct to a certain extent.
But unfortunately Mr. Ken Rockwell put the cases into an extreme way,
e.g. anyone who tested camera gear or participating at forums belong to
the lowest level etc. which is unrealistic, as someone who tests gear
or chatting at forums can still manage to take good photos, right?

Yep, another question - what Usenet News Agent you are using now? I
think my old software has been lost and need to download a new one. I
am currently using the Google Groups Beta Webbase interface to post.
    TIA and see you.

Strange domain suffix they picked then. :)

Hong Kong, cool - love to see some photos from there.
Well some in this group don't even own a camera.
I'm using ms outlook express (let the flames begin). I suggest xananews
    though..

Here is a picture of Hong Kong, taken from the Kowloon side in 2001,
using my first Digicam, the Olympus C-3000:-

LOL, but how come they have a camera to test/measurbate? ;-)
    though..

Thanks for the info. But I have just discovered lately that my current
ISP don't have a (Usenet) news server! Thus, I must use the Google
Groups Interface.. :-( I still prefer a news client program, btw.

Thank you for your kind comment :) That's an old digi photo of mine,
    btw.
The beta Google don't have quoting and adding signature function which
I find is not very convenient to use.

    Cheers,

I've asked around for suggested web based readers, but no luck so far.
There might be a way to point a good reader client to RSS feeds to the
groups - at least it's worth looking into.

"really simple syndication" - as far as I know it became popular when
blogging took off. I don't know that much about it, but my friend suggested
    it.

Here's a link with more information.
