    Guys,

Just upgraded from a 300d to a 400d and tried doing some photos but I can't
get spot metering to work. This is the only technique I use for taking
photos so I am at a real loss as I can't get this to work on the 400d.

From googling 'spot metering 400d' it appears that it isn't supported. I
understand that you can change the spot position to the center point and set
the camera to partial metering. However I can't meter a spot and then
reframe the scene and get the camera to hold the exposure.

Let's say I meter off a tree at F8 at 200th, hold the shutter half-down and
point the camera down in the shadows. Well the camera stupidly changes the
exposure. I found you can click the * button to hold the exposure but this
would be idiotic and impractical to do on every shot.

Please tell me how to do an equivalent of spot metering on the 400d! I
loved the 300d because I can half-press on my midtone, reframe the shot and
take the photo at the metered spot.

Would truly love your help I'm at a loss :-(
