I have a Sony 8mm camcorder I bought new over 5 years ago. It has worked
    very well for me and
continue to do so. Now I'm ready to upgrade to digital. Since my current
    Sony is so dependable
and makes decent videos I decided to look at their digitals. I'm looking to
    spend around 5 to 6
hundred. Two Sonys I have in mind are the DCRTRV22 and DCRHC40. They both
list for 599 at a local
electronics shop. Can anyone please give me their assessments of either
    those 2 cameras? Still
shots are not important since I have a very good digital still camera. Also
    any other suggestions
in my price range would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Sony HC range are replacements for the TRV range, though you'll see
the latter in the shops for a while, while Sony, wholesalers and
retailers clear their stocks. Within its price range the HC40 is a nice
    camcorder.
