Help with DV Capture

Discussion in 'Video Cameras' started by Matt McKnight, Oct 17, 2003.

  1. Hey everyone,

I have a Canon ZR60, and when I start capturing video, the video skips as
it's being recorded to my hard drive. The image sometimes stops, and I can
hear my hard drive making a lot of noise, and once i'm done capturing, the
finished video skips. I don't think it's a problem with my system I have a
P4 with 256MB of RDRAM. I thought it might be the cache on my hard drive,
    can anyone help me out?

I had the same problem. Two pieces of advice that I've been given in
this great newsgroup are as follows.

    1. You must use a firewire connection, not USB, to get a good capture.
I got a Lucent firewire from, quicklinx number 179GWS,
current price £12.51 incl p&p. It arrived within 24 hours.

    2. You should enable DMA (which I think stands for Direct Memory
Access). On my Windows ME setup I did it as follows. Go to Control
Panel > System > Device Manager tab. Click on the plus sign beside Disk
Drives, highlight the disk drive and click on Properties. Go to the
Settings tab and tick the DMA box.
