Help with writing an Action - hiding selection borders

I'm working on an Action and can't get one step to transfer.

Basically, I loaded an alpha channel as a mask and want to hide the 'marching
ants'. I've tried ctrl-H (View > Extras and toggle off) and View > Show >
Selection Edges (toggle off) and either of these hide the ants when I do it by
hand building the Action, but don't get picked up as a command by the Action so
when I run it the ants are still there.

I have an Action written by someone else (a lot smarter than I am, obviously)
and he is able to hide the ants with the command line "Select Toggle Edges menu
item" but I don't get this using the two methods described above. Maybe he's
    writing a script, dunno.

Can any one offer help on this?

In the Action palette, click on the little triangle to bring up the
    palette's menu,
choose Insert Menu Item, then from the regular menus choose View > Show >
