Can't get the thing connected to my PC. My MS XP (Home) software won't
'see' the camera. Trying to connect using the "DV out" port via Firewire.

All the usual retail outlets have been unable to advise (meaningfully) and
the Panasonic user site is worse than useless.

Pinnacle 8 and MGI Videowave 5 software both unable to access the camera.

    Anyone help?

I got a Panasonic NVGS50 recently and have no problem with a connection via
my Firewire card on a Win XP PC. So perhaps try checking a few basic things
    first:
    - in the Device manager section of the PC's system properties, can you see a
firewire card (or IEEE 1394 controller)? (i.e. is the PC recognising the
    firewire card properly)
    - have you tried switching on the camcorder first and then the PC?

If that all seems OK, suggest you could try some web sites such as:
    http://forum.simplydv.co.uk/
    http://desktopvideo.about.com/
    http://www.computervideo.net/

    Good luck
