I've been using Photobucket for 10 years. Now they've decided to cut
my photos down to 86% of size. Pretty much the last straw with this
    way too commercialized photo site.

Naturally, I'd like a free site.. but a few bucks a month wouldn't be
the end of the world if they were awesome.

Check out Dropbox. I've been using them more and more.

Depending on how much you use it and what you use it for, a personal web
host might work very well for you. You would not have to do web pages
unless you want to - but could easily store photos (unaltered) and maybe
do an online photo album. netfirms.com charges $5.95 per month for a no
    ad site.

Free site to you means their expenses would have to come from other sources (ads). If there is a free to you and ad free I can bet is not going to last, either it will go bust, downgrade service or put ads next to your photos.

Try to host it yourself at home instead.

Some friends in another group are starting to use:
    http://www.picfront.org/

They will host them up to 8 MB in size without shrinking them.

I love some of the terms of use:
"1 There is no right to the availability of this service and the
    uploaded files.
2 It is not allowed to upload pronographic, racistic, radical or
    copyright protected material.
3 It is not allowed to upload material, which breaks the law of the land.
4 PicFront reserves to itself to lock payments in accordance with its
    principles after negative checking.
5 A change of our terms is possible at any time without announcement.
6 It isn't allowed to link in toplists."

You just have to love, "pronographic" ;-)

I believe that a hosting site such as Phanfare
    < http://www.phanfare.com/corp/tech.aspx >

or ZenFolio would ultimately prove more useful.

If paid hosts are being recommended, then let me put in a plug for
SmugMug. http://www.smugmug.com/ I've been using this photo host
for five years and have been very satisfied. Unlimited storage. $40
a year just for storage, but you create galleries and link to images
if you want to post an image. $150 a year if you want to sell your
photos. In any plan, you can customize your page.

I frequently link to my photos when I show them here.

I get a free zenfolio site with my membership in a camera club I
belong to, but I've never used it. Others like it.

....but the question remains, "Can you post pronographic material on any
    of those services"?
Perhaps "prawnographic" material would be permissible.

How can an uncopyrighted image be uploaded? Copyright is automatic.

Don't be silly. Pronographic photos are allowed. They are simply
photographs of pronouns. You just have to be careful using personal
    pronouns that are too racy.

As I said these "terms of use" are downright entertaining. I am
probably going to give picfront a pass. ;-)

That's a Graflex...a pronographic photo of someone flexing their gra.

    Pronographs are very rare.

A pronograph would be a record player which you'd use to listen to old
Redd Foxx and Moms Mabley LPs.

  16. So if you don't place *your own photos* in public domain or
otherwise renounce all copyright protections, you may not upload
it, because it's material and protected by copyright.
