Hot shoe LED light compatible with Canon G12?

My Canon G12 has a weak focus lamp and a flash but nothing in between, which
makes low light macro photography a trial and error process.

What I would like is something like the high intensity LED light that comes with
my phone camera. I'm guessing that this is less than 0.5W.

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a hot shoe mounted LED light that
switches on when you press to focus, or do they all need to be manually switched
    on and off?

I think there used to be a Canon accessory which was exactly what you
are looking for - an LED focusing aid that mounted in the hot shoe and
projected a pattern on the subject that the camera could focus on.
However I cannot find any trace in the current Canon catalogue.

You could possibly get the same effect by buying the cheapest
Canon-compatible flash gun with an (infra-)red focus illuminator,
using it to obtain correct focus, then turning off the flash before
making the exposure. A cheap Chinese-made flash gun would probably
cost less than the Canon accessory in any case.
