How close is the Macro on the A70?

    Hi members,

Has anyone used the Powershot A70 to "scan" 35mm slides? I have a
collection of slides that I want to digitize but I don't want to get a
scanner yet. I have other needs for a digitcal camera as well, so I
thought I might get one to serve both purposes.

If I placed the slide on a light box and activate the Macro mode on
the A70, would that give me a decent result to post on the Internet?

    Thanks
    Matthew

    Hello Matthew,

For what it is worth - I had about 700 slides up to 35 years old, to
digitise, and I projected them onto a small screen and rephotographed
them with my Ricoh Caplio RR30. Using the digital zoom, I was able to
obtain the optimum size on the screen.

I then edge cropped the file using PSP, and organised them into a
    digital album.

The results were fine. It was a big job, but only had to be done once.

    Kind regards

    Sorry Matthew,

I meant optical zoom - not digital zoom
