The business name in Melbourne was
"The Occasion Studios" and they were situated
    in East Melbourne.

/does anyone know where they are now?

It's funny I had a discussion with my business partner the other day about
domain names. He thinks we should go with a dot.com, and I want to stay
with a dot.com.au, this has convinced me. The OP probably didnt even think
of searching for a dot.com for an aussie website.

  4. When it doubt register both. And have them point to the same website.

The cost of a domain name per year is not a large cost. You will spend much
    more for your web site.

    Have a good day.

Another gotcha with using a .com (or .org, .net, etc.) domain for a .au
business is that google.com.au will list a .com site way down the page
compared to a .com.au site with similar keywords. In other words, don't use
a .com domain for a local business.

This is good advice, but it won't help with the google.com vs google.com.au
search problem (see my other post in this thread).
